Original artwork for the film was rendered in gouache on paper and DuraLar, with some sequences drawn using a Wacom tablet. Paintings were digitally scanned and layered using Adobe PhotoShop, then animated and synchronized with the soundtrack using Apple's Motion software.
Dream Logic: There's an ineffable kind of logic that is unique to dreams. What makes perfect sense at the summit of REM, later seems absurd. I admit to clumsiness when it comes to math. By taking the dream logic seriously though, I was able to solve the mystery of synching the popping bubbles in the last scene with the final drum beats of the soundtrack. After a fit of long-hand calculating (around 4 a.m.), the result was 2112 — a palindrome. It was a light-bulb moment in which, according to the dream logic, palindrome equaled the correct answer. And it was. |
